About the Dumfries District

By Maureen Caddigan

Maureen Caddigan, Dumfries District Supervisor

The Dumfries District is an exciting and diverse area just south of Washington, D.C. and is one of seven distinct geographic entities that make up Prince William County. Although I have county-wide responsibilities as a member of the Board of County Supervisors, my specific emphasis is on serving and supporting all citizens within our District including my representation of 16 different subdivisions, and the Towns of Dumfries and Quantico. We are also very proud to be the home of the Quantico Marine Corps Base.

Located along the Potomac River, our District offers a variety of recreational opportunities including boating, fishing, golf, playing fields, the General Joseph Heiser Boys and Girls Club and both the Prince William Forest National Park and the Locust Shade Regional Park. Our elementary, middle and high schools are excellent and we offer easy access to both major highways and public transportation. The District is rich in history, especially in the Town of Dumfries which is the oldest chartered town in the Commonwealth of Virginia and was once the major seaport on the east coast. It also houses the Weems-Botts Museum, the original home of the writer of the story of George Washington and the Cherry Tree.

There is much to do in our District and more than ample opportunities to get involved in a wide variety of organizations and activities. I encourage our citizens to become active in something of their preference to truly become an active member of our vibrant community. I am always available to assist our residents and encourage you to contact my office with your concerns. My motto - "I listen - I care - I respond" is sincere. Please let me hear from you to learn of your needs so that I can research the issue and respond with my findings.
