Dear Neighbors,
As always, I welcome the opportunity to share information
with the community. I have worked with my webmaster to
update my website to make it more interactive to receive
your comments and questions. We have added information
about the FY 2009 Budget, Potomac Communities and projects
in the Dumfries District. Please consider visiting my
website at www.dumfries.com. I look forward to hearing from you.
Proposed FY 2009 Fiscal Plan
The Budget this year will be very challenging. I've created a budget
section on my website where you can find a link to the
PWC Budget and Analysis Office,
the BOCS budget schedule and
several documents related to the budget process.
Your opinion is important to me, and I would like to hear
from you on this issue. Please send me your questions, concerns and
priorities. I will forward
your inquiries to the budget staff for response, and take your
ideas and concerns into consideration. Selected questions and
answers will be published anonymously on our
new "Ask
Maureen" page where others may
benefit from your inquiries.
Please feel free to call any of my
appointees with any questions
or issues you may have concerning any of the Boards or
Commissions within the County.
Quantico Growth Management Committee
The committee is made up of elected officials from Prince
William and Stafford Counties. I co-chair it with Supervisor
Dudenhefer, Stafford County. Supervisors Principi and Jenkins
also serve as representatives of our County. Planning for our
community's infrastructure and social needs are ongoing priorities.
We are in a critical decision-making phase and the need for
transportation projects is addressed in our reports and
requires attention due to BRAC. I have taken a driving
tour of the area with Supervisor Dudenhefer to get a
firsthand look at some of the transportation concerns.
Congressman Rob Wittman attended our last meeting.
I will keep you updated on our progress.
Catholic High School/Pope John Paul the Great
The new Catholic High will open in September 2008.
I recently went on a tour of the school. I can't tell how
excited I am to see this project finally happening! I have
worked for over ten years to get to this point. You can find
more pictures and
more information at my website and visit the
school's website at www.jpthegreat.org.
I recently attended two outstanding events. The first was the
Prince William Regional Chamber of Commerce 2008 Valor Awards at
The Clubs of Quantico on March 27, 2008, where policeman and fireman
receive recognition for their service to our Prince William community.
The event was narrated by Jim Vance from NBC 4, who read the accomplishments of
each award winner. We are truly blessed to have
these dedicated people helping to keep us safe and secure.
The second event was the dedication of the
Marine Toys for
Tots Foundation Building on March 28, 2008. In 2007 Toys
for Tots celebrated its 60th Anniversary with one of its
most successful campaigns ever. Please drive by and take
a look at the new headquarters which is located at
18251 Quantico Gateway Drive, Triangle. What a wonderful addition
to our community. You can read more about this building and the dedication
ceremony at my Toys for Tots issues page.
Warm Regards,
Maureen

From the Prince William Clean Community Council
The Prince William Clean Community Council works in partnership with
Neighborhood Services, the County Police and victimized residents to have
graffiti abated in the county as quickly as possible. One of the roles of
the Council is to track the incidents by maintaining a database of all
graffiti reports forwarded to us from the police department and the
community at large.
The Clean Community Council received more than three
hundred reports of
graffiti vandalism from the beginning of this fiscal year to date. Further,
we anticipate an even greater increase of this type vandalism during the
coming spring and summer months.
The Clean Community Council provides a
great deal of guidance and information on graffiti on their website,
including victim assistance and removal reward program.
